Rebellious House

I can think of no better word to describe the people of America.  In the Old Testament, God kept warning the people of Israel to turn back to Him, and yet they did not.  God always had his protective hand on the Israelites, but eventually turned away from them when they followed other gods:

“In the book of Ezekiel, the phrase “rebellious house” is repeatedly used to describe the Israelites, characterized by their spiritual obstinacy. They are depicted as people who have eyes but do not see, and ears but do not hear (Ezek 12:2–3). God instructs the prophet Ezekiel to speak His message whether they listen or refuse to hear, so they will know a prophet has been among them (Ezek 2:5–8). Despite the challenging environment, with metaphorical briers, thorns, and scorpions, Ezekiel is repeatedly told not to be afraid of their words or looks (Ezek 2:5–8). God strengthens Ezekiel, making his forehead like hard emery, and at times even silencing him from reproving them directly. When God speaks, Ezekiel is to declare “Thus says the Lord GOD,” allowing people the choice to hear or refuse (Ezek 3:9, 26–27). As a symbolic act, Ezekiel is even instructed to prepare exile baggage and move from place to place in their sight, in hopes that they might eventually understand (Ezek 12:2–3).”  Logos AI.

It is not surprising that Americans have followed in the Jewish footsteps.  We were founded as a Christian nation and have, over time, fallen away from God.  As with the Jewish people, God is lifting his protection from America.  We have become like the Jews of the Old Testament.  God is calling us back to Him, but we are too busy following other gods.

Here are a few verses from the English Standard Bible:

Ezek 2:5–8

And whether they hear or refuse to hear (for they are a rebellious house) they will know that a prophet has been among them. And you, son of man, be not afraid of them, nor be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you and you sit on scorpions. Be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house. And you shall speak my words to them, whether they hear or refuse to hear, for they are a rebellious house. “But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. Be not rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give you.”

Ezek 3:9

Like emery harder than flint have I made your forehead. Fear them not, nor be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house.”

Ezek 3:26–27

Ezek 12:2–3

“Son of man, you dwell in the midst of a rebellious house, who have eyes to see, but see not, who have ears to hear, but hear not, for they are a rebellious house.
